You Just Had to Be There!

Yesterday when we got up we knew it was cold - we had read the forecast the day before and there was definitely a "chill" in our apartment.  But, it was below zero and not warming up quickly.  (Just found out that right now it is -8 F.).  We had to go the grocery store - no options, it was necessary.  So, we had to brave the elements.  We both put on our big coats, hats and gloves.  I even put the hat on that covers my entire head!  Has to be cold to sacrifice a hairstyle.

Here's a play by play of the whole thing:

Tim headed out ahead of Marsha to warm up the car.  Was able to open the door with a little effort - but the lock was definitely frozen.  Turn the car, heat and defrost on.
Tim took the ice scraper and began scraping the windows.  Upon trying to get back into the car, he found the door handles and locks were frozen.  With a little effort, he eventually got the passenger side door open and got in that seat.
Marsha comes out and sits in the back seat.
Tim can't get out of front seat passenger door.
Marsha gets out and bangs on the door and lock trying to loosen the frozen lock.  Finally successful, Tim get out and starts working on the glass again.
Marsha gets back in the back seat to wait.
Tim tries to get back into the front seat - locks frozen again.
Tim tries to driver's door - locks still frozen.
Tim gets in the back seat with Marsha.
Car is still idling and hopefully warming up.
It's been 30 minutes now.
Tim gets out and tries the driver's door again  - no luck.
He gets back in the back seat.
Marsha and Tim realize how stupid they look in a car with the motor running and no one in the front seat!  We had a good laugh!
Marsha goes back in the apartment for something.
Tim tries to driver's door again - still frozen.
Tim tries the front passenger door - frozen, but in time he is able to open it.
Marsha returns and sits in the back seat.
Tim has Marsha try to open the driver's door.  No luck, still frozen.
It's been 45 minutes.
Marsha returns to the back seat.
After a little conversation, Marsha persuades Tim to crawl over the gear shift into the driver's seat.
Marsha gets out and tries the front passenger door - beginning to freeze again, but with a little effort the door opens.
Finally, they head out to the store and by the time they reach the store, both doors are thawed out - it had taken 1 hour!

It may not be as funny to you as you read it as it was to us when we were going through it - but we had a good laugh.  Maybe, you just had to be there to appreciate the humor!

laughed...lived in Michigan and can understand the locked doors..but I kept asking through the whole process why Tim just didn't climb into the driver's seat..guess its kind of like watching football on TV and you wonder why they keep running right where the other team is instead of where noone is. Glad you made it to the grocery store and back safely.

Terry was wondering if Tim was frozen and couldn't think to climb over the gear shift.:)
