I am "ONE OF THOSE"

I am one of those who live in a foreign country and speak very little of the language.

I am one of those who won't argue with you about alcohol but never be comfortable getting on the Metro with a drunk man at 11 in the morning.

I am one of those who will walk away from a conversation requiring "proof" of my personal experience with God. I am living proof!

I am one of those who will ignore a phone call after 9 pm or before 9 am.

I am one of those who read books over and over again - even the ones I don't like.

I am one of those who hope "I never" get over my Daddy's death.

I am one of those who "cringe" when someone asks me if I am a Southern Baptist - never know which way the conversation will go.

I am one of those who is still shocked when I meet someone who doesn't know who Jesus is - shocked and ashamed that I haven't told them.

I am one of those who think God wants us to spend more time one-on-one than in small groups!

I am one of those who can cook a potato at least 10 different ways (thanks to my life in Ukraine).

I am one of those who long for the "good ole days" but wouldn't go back if I could.

I am one of those whose feet start moving at the sound of beach music without me even knowing it.

I am one of those who can't figure out why God would chose me - but so grateful that He did!

I am one of those who become someone you don't want to know when you do something against one of my kids.

I am one of those who pray over meals in public - and yes, with my eyes closed.

I am one of those who only wear skirts or dresses when it is absolutely necessary!

I am one of those who wear a scarf in some churches only because of my love of the people I'm worshipping with.

I am one of those who can walk away from most relationships without looking back. Not because I don't care, I just see it as a season passed.

I am one of those who forgive easily ..... but have trouble moving beyond the personal pain I feel because of an incident.

I am one of those who can say "no" easily and quickly and walk away from someone trying to change my mind.

I am one of those who will address conflict quickly! Don't want it to hinder my relationship with the Lord.

I am one of those changed dramatically by the reality of WWII even though I wasn't born then.

I am one of those who choose Apple every time! And yes, I'm offended by the jokes of those who either don't or can't. It is personal!

I am one of those who understand much more Russian than I speak. Panimayo?

I am one of those who don't understand why sleep is essential?

I am one of those who think people who lug big Bibles around just do it for others to see. I'll take one that fits in my purse (or on my itouch) and is easy to use when I get the chance to share Christ. Better yet - write it on your heart! Leave the big Bible at home!

I am one of those who know I don't deserve God's love, but thankful that He loves me anyway.

I am one of those who still cry when I pray for our military. I am so thankful for them!

I am one of those who only choose Old Yankee candles! If you had to deal with the smells I do, you would understand.

I am one of those who chooses Starbucks anytime and anywhere I can (and that won't be in Ukraine).

I am one of those ashamed of the opportunities to share Christ I've passed up.

I am one of those who have hope for Ukraine and hope for the younger generation around the world.

I am one of those who still believe in spankings. (Some of your kids need one!)

I am one of those who is not intimidated by authority, but very grateful and willing to serve when I have godly authority. (Thank you S.F.)

I am one of those who love to travel by train - especially overnight!

I am one of those who choose walking over riding a bus when possible. (And especially over a marshrutka).

I am one of those who find breakfast out my favorite meal of the day.

I am one of those who likes "old" things, and they don't need to be antiques.

I am one of those who had to learn the hard way to allow the Holy Spirit to hold my tongue!

I am one of those who were tossed and turned by temptation in the 60s and 70s and thankful for the woman it has made me today.

I am one of those who don't need you to "tell" me what the Bible says - the Holy Spirit living in me does that for me. I am one of those who like to be "taught" and "shown".

I am one of those have India on my heart.

I am one of those people who have a definite opinion but I don't have to share it.

I am one of those people who are thankful that David Platt had the personal experience that caused him to write "Radical" but I'm also one of those people that don't want you to tell me how the book changed you - show me instead!

I am one of those people who stop at the sound of Johnny Hunt or J.D. Grear's voices. They are voices worth listening to.

I am one of those people who struggle with losing myself for Christ and not just losing myself entirely!

No doubt ...... this is only the beginning....... so Part I ended!

Hi Marsha,
I enjoyed reading this. Just wondering about your ideas behind the small group/ one-to-one comment. I've been thinking about it a lot lately as I try to lead a small group.
thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin!
Thanks for reading the post. I'm grateful for the countless small groups I've been in over the years. Some were Bible study, Sunday School, quilting and even Book Club. I'm not against small groups in general. My comment is really about the increased opportunity of making a genuine impact in sharing Christ or helping someone grow in their faith walk one on one. I think we've come to a time when people don't want to be transparent about themselves in groups (for a lot of reasons) - and we usually mask who we really are by telling what we want people to know. One on one we can be transparent, deeply personal and involved in discipling another believer or being accountable for our own faith. Some of the best mentoring relationships grow out of small groups. There's still a place for groups - but I'll choose an opportunity for one-on-one over a group almost every time.

I'm sure you're a great group leader. And I suspect, you're available to meet one-one-one as members of your small group need you. You're a women of understanding and wisdom - a WISE woman!

Hope all is well!
Marsha
